Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah i kinda went overboard on the paint job which is why I have been afraid of driving it. But after taking my 2013 Boss Mustang Laguna Seca to the track...well i figured if things ever went bad that i'd rather ball up the older car...so that's the reason the project has been given new life. I'll probably have to remove the parking and corner laps when i'm on the track, as damaging those basically makes the car scrap....cant believe no one makes the passenger outer marker lamp! ugh.
Didnt know about that other site - Bob- thanks. Believe it or not, I'm not a specific type of car guy so I dont go looking for specific forums; just an all around gear head.
Today I removed the air conditioning system. Hope I can pull the engine by the weekend and start the disassembly. Will also try to start mocking up the cooling system design...Hope to use a fan from a 2012 mustang and a front mount intercooler from a new ecoboost. Being in the Detroit area has its advantages at the local junkyards....lots of cars from the Big 3.Leave a comment:

1984 SVO Project - track car
Was working on the Fairlane wagon earlier this spring when I took another car to the race track (road course). Needless to say I got hooked and decided to resurrect an old project to make a real road course car as soon as the wagon was 'finished'.
I bought the SVO many years ago for $2k and was turning it into a track car until my brother sideswiped it and I was forced to paint it. After painting the car it was moth balled.
Now move forward 8 years and the project is starting where it was left of.
Currently has:
subframe connectors
Steeda upper and lower control arms
Track Tires
Car needs:
Clutch replacement
Cooling system upgrade
Main & rod bearings
Axle refresh (rebuild track lock, gear change)
roll cage - maybe
more HP - definitely
Started pulling the engine this weekend; am finding several surprises which is normal. The clutch was pretty worn as i expected, not much life left. Engine rear main seal has leak, but guess that is normal and inconsequential as its being pulled and taken apart anyway.
Need to finish this project by Mid August to ensure its completed in time for the track day that month. Plan is to get the car to survive through the summer and then if all goes well, do some serious upgrades over the winter.
Hope you guys don't chastise me too much as this car probably isn't as old as you're accustomed to viewing. (only 30 yrs old)
