  • 1980 malibu 6.0L swap with Holley EFI

got my bu out and made it for the last race of the season. heres an over view of the build and setup setup
    1980 Malibu
    12 bolt 4.56 gears
coan convertor stalls to about 3500
    glide
    All stock 04/05 6.0L with 130,000 miles
Holleys HP EFI ECU and harness
    aeromotive a1000 pump
generic shorty headers with x pipe and flomasters

    450$ 05 6.0l out of a sheriff van

go it set in the car after some clean up and with some spohn mounts and had to move the tranny foward 3 inchs

then took it to my dads shop where i installed the holley ecu and wiring harness 1500$
and got some cheapo shorty headers off of c list for 50$

used a a1000 pump 365$ and all the fuel lines were about 250$

had to change the valve covers because i the others didnt have coil mounts yet but go it started with the base tune and program holley sends with the ecu and harness

cars best in eith mile with 355, solid lift cam, bowtie heads, edlebrock intake, and holley carb was 7.70

First pass out of the box today was 7.71, the car was still in the closed loop learn function and I had only made one test hit on the street so it had minimal tuning. The car ran good so I just left in in the learning loop here are all the passes, mind you im bracket racing and killed some mile an hour on a few occasions. I actually won the sportsman class the first and only time outthis year and on this setup

    7.71 @ 88mph
    7.69 @ 88mph
    7.69 @ 88mph
    7.70 @ 85mph
    7.75 @ 80mph
    7.66 @ 88mph
    7.65 @ 87mph
    7.63 @ 88mph
    7.66 @ 84mph
    7.62 @ 88mph

its already faster than my old setup with no tuning and running on 93 pump gas.
heres a video of the 7.63 run, this build took me about a year to do on a limited budget id say i got 3250 in everything. i sold the old 355 for 1100 so that helped a bit

Would that be Brown County Indiana? I am up near Indy that track looks really neat. Nice car to, I have been kicking around a 6.0 swap on my 67 Chevelle BBC.
