  • As I was messing with my Firebird I was wondering what you are going to run for a radiator? An aluminum one probably weighs considerably less than a 4 core copper-brass one, though I know it will not be correct for appearances. And you probably have a copper-brass one laying around.

I was comparing the 3-core copper-brass versus the 1-core aluminum that is supposedly has the equivalent cooling capacity of the 3-core copper-brass.

        • yup, I got one just like the aluminum one I put in the 55 in 2012...will paint it black...it'll work ok. Big bucks way to go is use a mid 60s Vette aluminum big block cross flow rad, with the separate surge tank. more shifter playing with....it's getting there. Still needs work.

              • I used a scale on the photo....then when I was going to make the gate, I just marked where the lever was in each gear.

I tell myself all the time when working on over complicating my stuff, "Jim has it figured out, none of this is needed."

I'm appreciative that he shares these things with us.

                          • My wife likes the "getting squirrely" one too.

slow progress, shifter is coming along, floor is almost done (the top side of it at least), quarters are getting close, but not there yet.

                            • My nephew was all gung ho for doing the bodywork on my 70 until he figured out by watching me there's a lot more work involved than he thought. Good luck on the quarters.

                              • I have help...which is a good thing, since they're both beat up pretty bad and with the radius, etc it's a lot of work to get them straight. Lots of heat shrinking needed.
