  • Jim, you're making great progress. I check every day. I'm torn on your wheel well openings. On one hand, I'd like to see a stock type uniform wheel opening. On the other, I fully understand the mix of the two and have to agree that was the right choice. I remember seeing these built in mags back in the day. To be a faithful copy, you'd have to do much sloppier and crude work. Thank god you're not going THAT far.

Even good 33+ or 88 will come off in the sun when it gets hot. The difference is it stays sticky, so you can wrap it back on and it sticks again. It's spendier, but works great. On electrical looms the trick we used for years in the trade is to wrap the tape sticky side out the first layer, and come back with a 2nd layer sticky side in. It makes a nice double layer of protection, but easily cut and removed if you ever need to get to the wiring.

      • Dad had a roll of the cloth tape with no adhesive, I always wondered what it was for. Then again, I wouldn't be real surprised to see wiring twine show up here.

Both quarter panels are in bondo now, my friend left last night, so I get to finish the bodywork on my own.

Old wiring like that slipped my mind! Radios, stereos, phonographs, some machinery.. A skill whose art is lost...

                  • Synthetic polyester auto body filler. The car will have higher resale value that way! "Oh no, no Bondo here - synthetic polyester auto body filler." I've actually used that line to good effect in a selling situation, not that you are prone to selling your creations.

                          • A little more progress, I made a test panel (56 chevy Suburban roof section) to test the color on, and I shot some urethane primer on the rear of the body.

So we get a pick of the primer but not the color?
