If I didn't mention this before, I am a complete Fox Mustang rookie. This may explain the some of the following dumb questions and foolish assumptions.

For the manual steering conversion, is there a reason to run a conventional Mustang manual rack vs. the lighter Pinto rack?

I've heard of folks running aftermarket lower control arms that lengthen the wheelbase, do these work and drive well? Do they make any real difference?

I retract my statement about it being clean. Did I understand right that the roof is caved in?

The Pinto rack is not a direct bolt-in unless you buy a kmember set up for one.

Kyhunter89 the car is definitely a 50 footer. The roof will pop out with some skill and talent at dent removal, something I lack completely. The big story for me is the paint is good; a little clay rubbin' and Mother's Show n' Shine and it'll be good to go.

James, I figured that since it's gonna get a tubular K-member I had options, but it's hard to get a clear picture on what's best for what we do. After taking it apart up front I've learned it was hit at some point in the driver's front corner as it has a black painted fender that's copper metallic underneath. The under bumper has some bizarre fiberglass repairs that I can't believe would have been done by the CHP. The rest of the story seems to check out as I found body tags that document the CHP factory paint and the body kit is real Saleen stuff. The wiring is a nightmare and I have a lot to learn about these Fox bodies in terms of how hey are assembled, but that's why we do this, right?

              Blind nose to fender bolts!?

I had to take off the passenger fender and nose as one piece as two of the studs that are molded into the nose piece (is this what the grill surround and bumper cover are called?) just spun when I was trying to remove the flange nuts. There are six per side and two screwed me on the passenger side so far.

Does anybody have a solution to this!

As for the weird repairs, it's likely the CHP had the car serviced by an outside source. The Culver City office uses Marina Ford which is down the street.

Since I couldn't figure out how to get the stuck nuts off the studs in the nose I just pulled the fender and the nose as one piece.

The second picture show the place where these things are in case someone knows the secret.

The original valance is under the Saleen piece which might just be the real deal as it has this embossed in the inside? The material reminds me of the old "Endura" bumpers as its somewhat pliant.

If I decide to keep it get to redo the doudble sided stuff it was afixed with. Does nayone know where to get automotive grade double stick? This stuff was a bitch to cut through.

I found these tags under the nose on the radiator cradle. The special paint code makes me think this verfies the cars CHP history. That and I'm told that this hole in the valance was cut for the siren.

I also note this car has a tubular loop as a Power Steering cooler. Is that standard on these cars?

The small tubular braces that go from the K-member to the bottom of the radiator cradle were torn off on one side and bent on the other. This may be tow truck damage.

Any good body shop supplier should have 3M brand or similar two-sided tape for mouldings that would do the job for the front skirt.

Tubular loop P/S cooler was standard on all of the 5.0L Mustangs of that era. The 93 Cobra R got a small finned cooler mounted in the area of the left fog light hole, borrowed from the early 90s Lincoln Continental.

On my 89 project, I have a Ford Motorsport aluminium rad that has the auto trans cooler in the left tank. I am going to plumb my P/S lines through that, since heat in the steering system can be an issue for Foxes used for track days.

                      cheers

On the spinning studs - this becomes the art of the possible. If you can't get Vise-Grips on the spinning end so the nut can be removed you may have to resort to cutting the fender metal then fixing the hole later. Sucks but might be your best choice. Or you could keep the dog house assembly together and just leave it.

Thanks Fast Ed. I revisited your project thread, great reading there, thank you for posting it all. Yours had the same MSD coil with the bracket that this one did. I forget how popular these cars have been such that it made sense for the aftermarket to create that kind of stuff.

Dan I soaked the I offending stud/nuts with PB blaster. And I'll leave it that way for now as they don't absolutely have to come apart at the moment.

Looking forward to this project. I know you will do it right. The braces between K member and radiator support remind me of the ones on my old 93 gt convertible. I have said it before I think foxbodies are one of the best cars ever made.

Bill, you probably know this but Skinny Kid makes motor plates for a BBF and belt drive. Either with a centered or offset crank centerline.

I didn't go to their website but do those plates work with an FE or just the 429/460 style? No plans to build such a thing - just wonderin'.
