I didn't know if the back of the block/bellhousing pattern is the same.

BTW - I grew up in the Commerce area (the location of Skinny Kids) in about 1955-1960 ish. I went to George A. Smith Elementary - whoever the heck HE was.

George A. Smith was a leader of the Latter Day Saints. Not sure why they named a public school after him.

          Always something to learn here.

I've seen panels that fill all the holes these cars seem to have, but that sounds like added weight. Is there any other use for these or do I leave them unpatched to save weight?

I'm really happy with how clean this car is underneath, very little bent stuff, very little rust. Great starting point.

The interior came out easily, the front seats which were pretty decent have gone to a new home. The carpet was ruined by rat pee and other critters is gone and the back seats I'm holding onto only for fitment as they are ratified too.

Under the carpet looks really good and clean, another great starting point for the subframe connectors and cage, the trunk was a sty comparatively, not sure why. I'm gong to keep the beige/black interior as the parts are all good and clean or cleanable. I'm inspired by Mark Sussino's (Slimbo) Pontiac so I'm going for a clean look like that just a bit more utilitarian under the carpet and panels.

Squint and you'll get the idea.

The floors are covered with a heavy sound/heat insulation material. Does anyone know a good way to get this stuff of beyond the heat and scrape method? I see hours of no fun coming but weight is weight and its got to go. I plan completely clean off the metal than do the welding then use LizardSkin or a home brewed version to seal it up and control heat and vibration. I'll use reflective stuff under the car again for heat management.

I'd love to hear other ideas for how to knock down heat and noise with little to no weight penalty.

I never understood why some people think it necessary to fill all the holes in the engine bay. Seems like a lot of busy work with no benefit.

That insulation stuff comes out of my car in big hunks. Whether I want it to or not.

Holesaw them to a larger size.....don't fill them.

I lightened up everthing from the front seats forwards and left everything from there back. These cars are SO light in the rear already.

Not really Scott, those are just the regular GT and optional LX seats that lots of 87 - 93 5.0s came with ... not nearly as supportive or durable as they look!! Some of the pre-85 GTs came with genuine Recaros, now those were nice.

                    cheers

I'll admit I like those seats, my 71 came with a set and they have been great for all the driving I've done in the car. But, they weigh 45# each and so I sold them off. I found some swap meet ProCar seats, less than half the weight and pretty comfy.

I really like my ProCars. I was comfortable on my 1850 mile drive to Nebraska.

Man up....wear ear plugs, and plan to loose weight in the sauna! at least that's my plan for my Chevy II

Although I think I'll put in a firewall pad, and probably some easy removable front floor mats to make driving almost bearable.

Jim, are you going to drive the Chevy II back to DW where ever it is this year? If so I'll bring a megaphone so we can have a normal conversation.

Filled holes are for show cars. I like the swiss cheese look.
