  • 67 Chevelle Rebuild

I thought I'd let you guys see how my friend and neighbor is rebuilding his wrecked 67 Chevelle.

Here's the starter. OUCH! besides the front clip getting wasted; the frame is toast as well.

Here's the car that's donating it's frame. 66 Malibu sedan. Looks like it only had the 57,000 miles the odometer said it had. Carl got it for $400 plus 67 front fenders, bumpers and inner fenders. Not bad. It's also the car that donated two kittens.

The guy he bought it from said he removed all the body bolts. All but two. We gave the body to a local salvage yard in exchange for them using their big fork lift to remove the body.

generally chevys use the same frame for all body styles.

Wagons and Elky's can work, but they are four inches longer at the frame horns.

Carl is just finishing up stripping the chassis down to the bare frame. He plans to have it blasted and painted. We removed a really nice, no play manual steering box if anyone is interested in one.

Seth, quit clowning around and start your project thread.
You already have way too many pictures and a long story to write.
                  .. get to it !!

We loaded up the frame today in Carl's shop truck. It's going to get sand blasted then painted tomorrow. If I get up early enough I will get a pic of it.

As a gift for me finding the parts he needed; Carl gave me a practically new set of Edelbrock shocks. I will replace the ones made of mush on the Caprice with these.

Oh yeah, I took some pics of the lil orphans kitties today that we found in the parts car. They are doing great. I am definitely considering adopting these furballs when they are old enough.

I think the Buick and Oldsmobile "glass roof" wagons have longer frames but are possibly the only example of the long frames till GM changed the A-body frames in 68 making the 4drs, Elkys, and wagons on a longer wheelbase.

We took the frame down to sandblasted today. The shop that did the work was nice enough to paint it chassis black for us as well. It looks brand new. It won't look this nice for long once we start putting parts back on it and this is a daily driver car.

I had hurry to get this shot before Carl covered it for the night.

very cool - someday I'll build a frame car, so much easier than a unibody.

I can't believe how clean that sedan was -- wow.

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up on this project. Carl brought the wreck back home this past Monday and started pulling it apart for the frame changeover. I still haven't figured out out well this is going to work in our driveway without a lift and just two cherry pickers. Should be scary.

Carl pulled the wrecked front end off and got the engine/tranny out yesterday after we ran around all morning getting parts and tools needed. The 350 was put together with spare parts lying around the shop and the 200R4 is near new. The 350 will again become spare parts as he is building a rather nasty 383 for this daily driver.

Today he got all the body bolts out except one that the receiver starting spinning on him. I'm glad I don't have to deal with that stuff.
