I can't recall - did you do a compression check yet?
Maybe a good idea before you attempt to light the fires....
No, I didn't do a compression check yet. The car wad parked around 1990 because the brakes went out.. My 61 Starfire was the same way, pulled it out of a junkyard after 10 years and it fired right up. Nobody covered any of the holes up on this engine when they removed the carb.
well, you're clean out should work fine. As a precaution though - would it not be a good idea to pull the plugs out and roll it over a few times to "blow out" what ever might have fallen into the cylinder through and open intake valve?
might also spray some penetrating lube into each one to lube the cylinder before using the starter to roll it over for a while.
man -what a cool body style - you guys are motivating me to finish and sell my mach1 - and get more into the "different" stuff that is cooler - and less expensive.
I just gotta say I really like this car! Unique stuff like this rocks, and with that later-model big-block Olds there ought to be some major torque on tap. Very cool.
Thanks, I'm really excited about this one, I'm kicking 5 other cars to the side to work on this one for awhile. If this 394 doesnt pan out, I'm mounting the 455/400 in it.
I'm pulling for the 394, simply because I love to hear stories of engines sitting for a long time, and being resurrected without all that much effort.
My tow motor forklift 4cyl flat head started on the second try after not rolling over for an untold amount of years... just needed new plugs, wires, and some carb work....
I hope that 394 revs to life and health after your thorough cleaning.
I think they should have painted it purple, though. That conservative color doesn't fit that car (obviously, just kidding). Actually, the purple fits the spaceship lines just right, to my eye.
That is one really nice car, however I don't like the bubbletop as well as the sedan. call me weird. The guy I got mine from had 2 hardtops for sale, one was 3500 and I didn't ask about the other. Overall, I think the 61 Olds were the best looking models for all of 1961 cars . The 61 Plymouth 2 dr sedan is my 2nd favorite.
Yes, thats a 70 442 4 speed post in the background(4500)
