Re: 1946 Mercury 2 Ton Truck - Was my Grandfather's in the 1950's

My dad's E4OD in his 95 F150 puked it's tranny fluid with about 80K on the clock, but it was a result of him sitting on the side of the road with the truck running in gear for about 20mins while he talked to a friend. We topped it off after that happened, and it didn't seem to leak anymore, but he pulled it and had it rebuilt anyway. The torque converter bushing was bad. His truck is a 300 inline six, so it didn't puke on the exhaust pipe, but if it was a V8 it probably would have.

I know of a few friends who have had E4OD's and they have all died after puking fluid out of the front seal. Usually they have more than 150K on them, so no shame really. Just sucks because the trucks are usually still pretty nice at that point, and E4ODs can get costly to rebuild. A few of them did 5spd conversions after the trannys puked.
    Still plays with trucks....
