      Re: The free 87 Suburban

I had a 318 with a two inch long crack in the lifter gallery. Fixed it with JB weld and it ran forever-never leaked. Not much work, not out much if it fails.

A lite touch with the grinder to expose it a bit better, some brake clean to really clean up the area, spash some JB on there. Got to be nice and dry, JB doesn't like coolant until it's solid. ;D

I was thinking of adding a piece of sheet metal over it to give it some tensile strength. I guess leaving a shop light near it overnight would help it set...it's generally in the 50s in my shop in winter. Spoiled, arent' I?

They didn't last long around here either. I think every Suburban of that vintage around here was painted that color combo, and every one of them peeled and rusted like that.

Not bad for free though, and I love that block repair!

don't worry , you will have more
one time I tried to save an 88 block - spent 50 bucks to get it agitated real clean and pretty
ran a magnaflux over the valley
found about 400 cracks that were not leaking water
try using some por 15 or epoxy paint like glue

Someone go holler at Freiburger...he's gotta see this!

That right there makes me feel a little better about some rather dubious repairs I've been forced to cobble up in the past.

Bonus points if it works....got my fingers crossed for you.
