  • yeah, I cannot remember the proper fitting size, will go down to napa to see what they have. Napa has transmission specific line for a couple dollars a foot. I will have to see what they have, just to make something work for now I can always get braided line later down the road if I need it. . I know fuel line eventually goes bad with ATF in it.

    thanks guys

    • here is a picture of the fittings on the side of transmission for the cooler lines. The brass fittings pictured do NOT come out of the transmission correct?

will this fitting fit? the inside of the fitting on the trans are threaded, and what I found on the TCI website is that the fittings on the 700r4 are 1/4 inch

      am I overthinking this?

      • Uh, no & yes. The brass fittings do unscrew out of the transmission case and yes you are over thinking it, sorta kinda maybe. I think you may be nervous and that's understandable but don't be. I haven't been in the garage since we started talking about trans cooler fittings or I would be able to say what size each end is. Short of a specific size I can say they are standard (easy to find) sizes, not some weird application specific oddity. The threads visible in your picture are for metal tube/flare fittings. The threads on the back side of the fittings, the ones in the transmission case, are pipe thread. The adapter in your link will/should (if the case threads are 1/4npt) be the one(s) to use if you were going to use braided line.

        • thanks man, yeah I am a bit nervous. this is one of the most involved projects I have done. I'll probably save the lines for last, i dont know if I want to run a hardline or braided yet, depends on the cost. going to put in an order to summit this week.

also I think I found what I needed. thank God for the internet lol

          • That certainly is the most cost effective route. My only concern would be how hard it will be to get the lines in with the engine/trans bolted in place.

I dont think that it will end up being too hard, there is some room to get stuff moved around. i can make it work. I hope. lol

              • I'm sure it can be done, just that it could be a chore. Of course my reference material is nine and twenty-two years newer and likely has obstacles you don't have.

                • put in an order to ecklers. ordered those transmission lines, as well as a set of fittings that will mate the new lines to the OE radiator. just for the sake of getting it moving again, I am going to just run the lines into the stock cooler in the rad. I will blow out the line to get all the old trans fluid out.

also while I was there, I ordered a new set of windshield wipers cuz the one on the car are shot and I also ordered a new glove box latch cuz the one in the car now is broken/ I dont have the key for it so I cant open it.

                  • I LIKE bending hard lines so I always go that way. I didn't say I was good at bending them, just that I like doing it. But the pre-made line route is a winner, too.

                    • made the last parts order for everything today.

now here is a quick question, do I need to get a pressure gauge to see what the pressure of the trans fluid is? Bowtie overdrives website says I need it, but I havnt heard of needing one before, unless I did and just forgot.

                      thanks

                      • You don't need a pressure gauge to run the transmission, just for diagnostic purposes or if you are anal about know what is going on under the hood. Personally I would consider a trans temperature gauge before a trans pressure gauge if I was going to put one in the car.

                        • thanks man, I will probably get a temp sensor once I get her on the road. I need to get one of those and a tach, I know I dont really "need" a tach, but id rather have one.

                          • yay parts arrived, got everything except for the TV cable kit, which should be here next week. Going to get cracking on her tomorrow after I get home from work.

ordered several parts that I will tally the costs of up later.

                            transmission cooler lines
                            cooler fittings
                            TCI converter controller kit
TV cable kit, which hopefully will show up tuesday or so
new spark plug wires. (that hopefully will fit)
                            new windshield wipers, needed them
glove box door lock, needed it, the old one was broken.

Im actually a bit afraid to tally up the costs.

all I need to go is go get a trans filter, fluids and some thread sealant and I should be done with parts purchasing..... FOR NOW. until I address the pass floor pan and frame issue.

                            • I keep records of spending but NEVER subtotal (subtotal 'cause you KNOW it ain't done) because it would only make me sick to know.

I also keep records of part numbers in case I need to replace something that can't be "looked up" at the local chain stores.
