time to finish it up. One major thing is I get to rewire the rear - the battery and inverter is all now a Breeze 1600 watt e-generator.
2 batteries for the back
a lot of clean up in the engine compartment
inside as well, I need to get a set of lights working (and rewire the other off-road lights)
this side isn't so bad but I need to fix the throttle pedal - the way it's designed puts the pedal about parallel with the floor... not comfortable

it's back
now with start button
I sent it to a friend who: found the starter was junk, ran the a/c lines, installed a new fan and fan controller. What a pain, now it's back for me to finish up some wiring clean up and general shakedown before giving it back to my wife.... just need space in the shop...

and he gave me bad news. The starter is the first of the problems. Come on Cummins.... you can't build a starter?
of course the fun will come later when I have to argue with Cummins, but this really does point out the importance of having a trusted mechanic - I had been fighting that starter and convinced myself that it couldn't be bad....
hmmm, maybe that's the sign - tell you the truth no matter what.
anywho - it's progressing and that's a wonderful thing

well, now it's ready to go to the wizard...err... electrician
bolted the interior all back together.
when it gets back, I will have some house wiring (meaning, the stuff that doesn't run the vehicle) to resolve but it should be drivable

I used a Monarch phototach on Mutt the S10 which works perfectly. It's a lab grade instrument and probably overkill but I was used to them from the EPA dyno days so that's what I went with. They can set it up with X pulses per rev and you attach the appropriate number os shiny bits of tape to the rotating part you want to monitor - I ordered just 1 pulse/rev which I thought was plenty of resolution. Given the age of the Mercedes engine (hence, leakage) I've had to clean the shiny tape a couple of times. Turns out the Interwebs have cheaper options.

So close.
intake, done
exhaust
done
what's left for me - put the interior back together.
then it goes back to Woodinville to a friend who loves wiring... he'll solve the ignition switch issue, wire the a/c pump and tie the temp sensors into the diesel sensor (thus enabling the fan circuit). finally wire the oil pressure switch and determine if we can fool the tach into taking the diesel outputs....
once it gets back, I'm doing a different 'house storage' system that integrates solar panels, and a lithium battery pack that also runs the engine-off a/c system.
this I'll publish later but the nutshell is we're using Zero Breeze a/c and their e-generator (batteries). I also think I can charge the reserve system with a simple 12v - 110v inverter. This should make the system easier and portable between our K9 rescue rigs.

with how much this motor costs, I'm surprised you have to go aftermarket to get the flange
not just that but the m10x1.25 nuts aren't included for the exhaust...
and that other piece... 60 bucks... no
installed
304 16 ga stainless
and tips
I didn't finish because I am out of oxygen for my torch - need to make and install hanger - all of which require a 90 degree bend
also fixed the jack on my trailer so I can haul it to a friend to figure out the ignition situation
ignition powers on, but won't crank. Occasionally it does but then shortly after that it won't crank at all (even with a bypass).... also plumb the A/C
