I wasn't terribly surprised to see cable-driven wipers on the '54 Healey........kind of surprised to see them STILL being used by whatever-year-this-machine-is.

What year is this thing anyways? At least on paper.

71, cable continued until 76... but keep in mind, they didn't change much from 59 up...

How is it that the British never discovered the joys of vacuum-powered wipers? Seems right up their alley?

Maybe the Prince of Darkness had the market cornered on sucking?

I think you're right about the prince of darkness - does it really matter why it doesn't work when it's a factory installed defect?

I think my '64 MGB had regular ol' electric wipers IIRC. They sometimes even worked!

was it like my friend's old Mini? they worked when it wasnt raining? He couldnt drive his mini in the rain, as it wouldnt run, but if the skies were clear, ran fine

I significantly de-Lucasized my "B" so it was pretty reliable. The distributor had a Mallory Unilite, I moved that battery forward to the engine bay and converted to a single 12V instead of the 2 ea. 6V in the rear, installed a Delcotron, and otherwise lost as much Lucas as I could. Still had the Lucas starter (fresh rebuild) and some of the wiring. All in all it worked pretty well. I rarely drove it in the rain (I kept the top down most of the time) but I don't remember the wipers being a problem.

And now back to SBG's regularly scheduled thread........

someone asked where my fire extinguishers were.... all over is the answer, but I'm down one now

                  got a little toasty

The issue was I had two wires swapped (6 and 8) and it got the passenger side red-hot.... of course, that's the side that has the gas tank right above the muffler (yeah, could have been interesting had I not had a strong impression to fill the tank up earlier in the week)

I will put a shield there too.... but that darkening? didn't hurt the coating or the paint at all, that black came from the muffler hanger lighting on fire.

while I was at it tonight I put the turn-outs on

I'm not sure that's what I want - but it'll work for now...

now is the validation time - I have at least 2 oil leaks that need addressing; both are going to be a pain to fix; I also need to fix an exhaust leak on the driver's side....

Man this thing looks so awesome! I hope we get to see some video of this thing at work.

but first is to solve what's probably an oil-ring-non-sealing issue.... ugh, it never ends.
