At fast idle pour part of a quart of diesel in then kill it with the rest..
Let sit overnite or a dat or 2 then let it run till the smoke clears..
Rings will start sealing unless broken.

My gut says there's a vacuum leak causing my issues. There is little chance that both sides would smoke equally if the rings were the issue... in any case, I'm pulling the front of the motor apart and I'm going to ditch the 2 piece timing cover... what a pos... I need to do the first oil change anyway

Anyway, beside it being a smokey beast, I did get a bit accomplished.
springs 150# and 250# lowers.... 200/300 was suggested as a starting point, I bought a set of 200s, that got me close, and it settled into pretty close. This is right on... in defense of the supplier, it's hella hard to guess what spring rates you need the first time... he was close

I still need to set the lower spring stop, but at least now it's bolted in place.... and I drove it it works awesome

        side view

and there's the height I wanted
now to fix the high-idle, the oil leak from the timing cover, narrowing in on it.

spent some times on the issue - it's not oil - it's probably a intake gasket leak; ugh... it smoked up pretty good for awhile, but it started to reduce - whether that means tightening sealed it or simply reduced the flow... don't know, I suspect it's the latter oh well, I have to drain the system anyway to fix the timing cover leak... while I'm at it, I'll do both ...

                Jeep parts (for later)

and I put a spacer in because I suspect there was a vacuum leak (it's a spreadbore base)

                which meant shortening the base

Fantastic looking rig...I said it before...I love the color scheme. On the edge of my seat waiting for trail abuse pictures..

                    more hated wiring
but first... I'm putting keyed locks on all the various places - so I bought same-keyed locks so when I lose my keys I have to replace all of them again

some mods were required for the lock on the box

and then the wiring - bright side is this - I left the wires long then shortened as I finished

                    success with the keyless ignition

So my review of keyless... I'm not sure it's going to stay - it has a lag to shut down, that and the antenna needs to be pretty close to the fob to work... which could be problematic. As it's just been hooked up, my opinion may change.... but there's the initial nutshell

                      oil leak time
you can really see where it was leaking between the two pieces

                      POS don't buy this

                      new timing cover in place

                      bottom done

                      tomorrow the top.

                        round 2

I used a hoist to get the manifold unstuck- there's no smoking gun, but the instructions talk about how if you use the wrong adhesive it will cause leaks like I had... crossing fingers

oh, and I broke my ankle - of course, I did the wise thing and kept working with the idea that a doctor will want my knee and ankle elevated - so I put the manifold back on ... I should probably go see a doctor (so he can laugh at me) tomorrow.

that stupid warn winch is just handy enough that I keep it around - but I've had noodles with more strength

OK SBG - HOW did you break your ankle!!?? Now get to the Doc and do what he tells you - a week or two in rehab will save a ton of discomfort down the road (I'm on the other side of this having not always taken care of injuries in my younger days).

Really bad sprain? Sprains can hurt far worse than a break, just depends.

Ice, lots of ice if so. And the ankle braces with velcro straps and the metal strips built in both sides are a gift from Heaven. They even can be tucked into your shoe for stylish gimping.

I rolled mine both ways (too stubborn to quit until we beat the kids at soccer) last November 10th - - I can honestly say that it is finally back to about 90% good.

Long gimpy winter for me. (I actually sprained the other one at the same time, but I never admitted it to wife. Thought being made fun of for one was enough)
