  • Father & Sons 7up Foxbody Vert Clean Up Build

I picked this up because I was bored and wanted a father and son project for me and my boys. I'm not a fan of the verts, but I got a pretty good deal on it and.... I was bored. This will be a budget remodel job, just clean it up and make it functional. The goal of this project is to teach my boys how to turn a wrench, and how to do things on a budget (hopefully.)

Hauling it home... mandatory stop at white castle.

The car needed taillights. Picked up a set locally pretty cheap.

    Much better.

It was pretty nice, so I pulled it outside and gave it a quite vacuum to make the next step a bit less gross.

I decided to keep track of my spending. This might get scary.

    Piece of car: $1600

    Taillights - $40 bucks

    Car Wash $5.00

Paint for floor panels - $20

Clear turn signal lenses, Rear speaker covers, Radio Bezel Piece - $60 Shipped

    Rear Bumper Cover - $20

    Front Bumper Cover - $50

Cobra r wheel and exterior door panel - $90

The 7up verts came with white leather interior. While the leather was not all tore up, it was very dirty (yellowed.)

I really wanted to see if I could clean the seats up. Nothing I tried work - except for a red scotch brite pad and carpet cleaner. A bit redneck, but I think it'll work. See the seat bottom? That was the result of 30 seconds work. I think things will clean up nicely with a bit of work.

At this point I decided to just pull the interior out for a good scrubbin.

I picked up a new/used rear bumper cover.

The mustang was wired for amps, components in front, and coaxials in the rear. I'm sticking with the basics here, coaxials off the head unit so....

As I mentioned before, the floor pans where in real good shape, just a bit of surface rust... which is better than I thought it would be!

I removed the sound deadening and hit the surface rust with some rustoleum roll on primer. Just did a test section on the drivers side rear floor pan. If it turns out well, I'll continue. One thing I need to do, is blow out the cracks and crevices as I pulled some dirt out with the paint brush while painting. lol

        Got the following parts.

Clear turn signal lenses (used - going to buff these and the headlights out)

        Rear speaker covers

Rear 1/4 seat belt bezel pieces

        radio bezel piece

I picked up a new/used front bumper with lights for $50 bucks.

A while back I discovered a crack in one of my cobra r's. I did some searching, and found I can order one through american muscle for 90 bucks shipped to my door - ordering that on friday.

I really want to have this thing licensed before June.

I tossed the interior back in the car. This fall I'm going to pull it back out and put in a new carpet, new seat upholstery, and redye the other interior pieces.

BUT, for now I can at least drive it.

I still need to give it a final wipe down and armorall it and put some conditioner on the seats.... and new floor mats.... and if I can find some decent white or gray arm rest for the door panels, I would jump on that.

Hope to paint the front and rear bumpers here real shortly. Then I'm going to drive it on nice days while I save for a new top.

My sister passed away on friday and I'm out on fmla for a few days... and when my mind starts wondering I clear my head by working on the mustang. So I went out and armoralled the interior and put leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats. I then decided to wash wash the dust off. The water is in the back yard and its muddy so I started carrying buckets of water around... then I got an idea!

but my youngest boy is a turd and it was only a matter of time before this happend.

and then things got even uglier for my wife.

but I stayed dry.... and the car got washed off! lol

looks like a good solid car. I had a 91 convertible that was the same color, wasnt a 7 up, but same green and the white/gray interior. my seats and door panels were white, but the console and dash were gray. I miss that car.

Got the new wheel and door handle on. I'm going to try to get it inspected on Tuesday. Now I just got to paint the front and rear bumpers and slap them on. Then a new top, and then I'm done until winter time.
