Finished making the pulley spacer today. I used a 2-1/8' hole saw in the drill press and slowly cut a hole. It took a while because I didn't want to clog up the saw. Then I sawed it off and dressed it up on the belt sander. I finish sanded the hole to fit snugly on the balancer snout.

I printed out a new template, carefully trimmed the center hole and aligned it on the pulley. Then I center punched the 3 additional holes (1 existing hole is used), went to the drill press and drilled the. Fits like a glove. This positions the back side of the pulley about 1" off the face of the motor plate which I am very happy with. I think I will eventually drill out the pulley center hole large enough to get to the crank bolt.

Isn't it funny how you can be smack in the middle of a project and find yourself already planning for the next phase?
Example: I am trying to leave enough room to mount a D-1SC Procharger in the location that it would normally fit on a 4.6L.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Started mocking up accessory mounts and belt routing. The ac compressor is the loop on the bottom left and the PS pump is the loop on the bottom right. I'm not super happy wirh the long belt spans to the alternator. (That is where the alt is located on a 4.6l) I might break up those spans with some idlers to get a better wrap on the alternator. I would love to mount the alternator in a different place, but there is not a lot of options seeing that the coil packs flank the alt on both sides. I even considered mounting it backwards over the waterpump, but I don't think that will work.

After I finished the converter swap in the Nanner, I decided to work on Greenbean for a while.
I managed to get the front suspension pretty much back together. Swapped struts to 87-93 Fox, installed lowering springs, and stock spkndles and lower control arms.
Next move is to drop the engine back in and start working on accessory mounts.

Dropped the engine back in to start working on the accessory mounts. The power steering pump looks like it is going to be a snap. The AC compressor is going to be a tight fit.
I also need to drop the swaybar mounts 1.5" to match the kmember spacers. It is currently trying to occupy the same space as the front of the oil pan.

How do you compare this swap to the one you did in the 83?
Comment
-
Very similar, but this swap is more involved. With the the 83, I didn't care about AC, PS, PB or anything. I just wanted it to go fast! The chassis' are darn near identical so what worked in the 83 also works in the 98.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I mocked up the fan and coolant tank and it does not look like I can run the electric water pump mounted to the front of the engine. It is just too long. I mean I *could* but then you end up modifying a bunch of other things just to accommodate it. A mechanical pump will not fit either. I briefly considered rotating the electric pump 90 degrees vertically with some adapter blocks of some sort, but then it interferes with the intended alternator location.
I am considering remotely mounting the water pump (maybe in front of the core support) and just running lines to the block. This would simplify belt routing as I would be able to mount an idler pulley or tensioner where the pump normally sits. There is a large space behind the bumper cover in front of the core support so I think I can mount it there and then run the lines right under the core support right up to the block. This would keep it out of the way and keep it fairly easy to access for maintenance.
