Trimmed down the ac mount and the ps pump mount a bit and dressed up all the sharp edges on everything. Next move is to bolt stuff back together and finalize the belt routing scheme.

I am attempting to mimic the stock belt routing and tensioner placement/function. Mine is a little more spread out, but I have coolant passages to work around. There will be an idler where the water pump would normally sit.

How about coming out the SIDES of the timing cover/water pump mount thingy? Behind the motor plate and straight out to the drivers and passengers sides, and plumb in an electric pump of the most economic variety whereever it fits best.
Just use the motor plate as a blockoff of the stock water pump inlets.
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

I actually considered doing just that. My only reservation is that the sides of the timing cover are quite irregularly shaped and that would make drilling and tapping quite difficult. The other consideration I had was, doing so creates a custom part that is necessary for use on any engine I put in the car.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I welded a mounting tab on and drilled the holes for the tensioner. Then I welded a piece of steel across the center hole to mount the the center idler pulley and moved the power steering pump about 1.5" closer to the crankshaft.
Now I need to find an idler pulley mount that I can weld or bolt to the cross piece.

Lawnmower parts. Haha. I found steel pulley mounts from a lawnmower parts place. I could buy a pack of 10 for what 1 cost from an autoparts store.

More spacers. The AC compressor and the PS pump both have recessed bolt pads so they need to have spacers in order to correctly bolt to my flat mounting plates. I will still need to drill them out slightly to fit over the locating bushings because I could not source the exact dimensions I wanted. No biggie though.

Center idler mocked up. Belt routing looks good.

Getting closer. All parts are bolted on and a belt was run through as a mockup. The tensioner needs some 2" spacers and the pulley will be rotated down when it is actually tensioning a belt.

No deals. Boo.
Just a total lack of suitable upgrades available. The efi heads pigeonhole you. Nowhere to go if the opportunity presented itself.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I'm on the fence... There's 500hp worth of intake flow stock (250 something CFM x 2 magic internet math), but the Price adapters are kind of pricey, and hacking the flanges off those high dollar hookers doesn't really appeal to me either... weight of a turbo kit would make it plow even worse. I'm still not clear on what a 4.6 weighs but an aluminum headed 460 may not be that far off. I know the loaded '97 I pulled out of my truck didn't bend the lift beam near as bad as the loaded '74 460 I pulled out years ago. I'm still really curious how they would do (the F3 heads) but I hear you on being limited.
Then again, I've rarely seen the dust settle under the hoods of your rides, (meant in a good way and way back to the Ranger) so you could always get it running this way and then do the pistons, heads, cam, intake ...
Oh, hey, question... how thick do you think an intake manifold runner wall needs to be? I have a fifty buck Torker (the crappy one) and believe it or not I think it will port match the F3te's. I've got more time than money right now and I'm seriously tempted to get some runner volume via grinding.Last edited by Beagle; March 30, 2021, 04:56 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.
