I've read that as well a while back - https://www.stangnet.com/mustang-for...oughts.710372/ ? What I'm not clear on, if it's enough to matter, is whether the 302 housing is the same diameter where it goes into the block. I've seen some stuff that implies the 5.0 Explorer CPS is about .070 smaller (http://www.efidynotuning.com/ignition.htm) but I figured the o-ring might take up that slack? I question that, but not enough to go dig up a 5.0 distributor. :|Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Ok here's the skinny.
1 - 1996 5.0L Explorer cps 1 - 1999 4.2L F150 cps
About $30 ea from Rockauto.
Knock the roll pins out, swap the shafts, put a gear from an old 460 distributor on it, drill a new hole in the shaft for the thrust collar roll pin, you're done.
I didn't measure the diameter of the housings. I know the SBF one is a skosh smaller and I also know Charlie Evans has run 351w distributors in BBF's with no issues. I may look for a little fatter oring in my big box of orings to snug it up a little. Not really worried about it.
Edit: I had no idea 351w distributor housing were a larger diameter. Strange.

Good deal. Just measured the housings.
302 = 1.493"
Crusty 460 distributor = 1.525"
So basically there is 0.030" diff between the two I have. I might be less if I took the time to really clean the 460 distributor. Haha.
Oh and the 4.2L housing is 1.295"
Edit:. I put a #218 o-ring on it and it fits perfect.Last edited by BBR; April 28, 2021, 04:29 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

No. This is just a cam position sensor. I am going to use the stock EEC-V and for full sequential efi operation, it needs a cam position signal.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Total project cost update: $1624
Includes: aluminum spacers, steel pulley mounts, strap steel, hose barbs, new pulley, 2 camshaft synchronizers, front and rear rotors and pads, and a used rack and pinion. (current rack is a massive leaker - used one was $85)
So basically I have doubled my initial $800 investment in this car so far.
Once I get the rear springs, brake rotors, pads and steering rack in, I will be done with all I want to do to the chassis for now.

Rear lowering springs are in!
The rest of the brakes will be here tomorrow. Fedex *completely* destroyed the box from Rockauto. The rotors made it but they lost both sets of brake pads.

Alternator mount needs to be revisited. The cam sensor is tall enough that it interferes.

Finished up the rear brakes this evening. Whoever invented the screw-in brake pistons should be tarred and feathered. Those suckers are stupid hard to deal with, but they are done!
Front brakes and steering rack are next. Then the chassis work will be basically done.
