Dad came over Saturday and we over crused the crush sleeve. Went got another one then started all over again. Monday night i got the carrier in. I replaced the right shim with a stack b/c the stock one had a grove from the race spinning. What a pain. I tried to make the stack the same thinkness of the factory shim. How tight is it suppost to be had to knock it, I used a rubber hammer. I put the caps back on a ran the bolts in. The back lash seems to be excessive. Need to get a dial indicator to be sure.
So if the back lash is to high i can move shims from one side to the other. If the total shim thickness is to large would that not cause to much preload on the bearings? I also assume not enough shims will be bad. Should they slid in or should they need some persuasion? How? what?

Car is together and out of jack stand jail. Best I can tell the rear is good. It by no means is a new car it has it far share is squeaks. One I think is the water plump. I guess sitting so much is not good. There is a slow speed squeak I can not put my finger on. Now to let Jennifer drive it and see if she still wants it. Then paint and or sale.

You know, I hate to say this out-loud, but you and I share the same affliction - and the only cure is to do cars we don't like; then when it's time to sell, we're as happy as a boat owner who finally sold his boat.Last edited by SuperBuickGuy; January 2, 2015, 11:10 PM.Doing it all wrong since 1966

While I do have a bit of hoarder in me. This time it truly is my wife. I have tried to sell this car a couple times. Either the 98 or the ranger is going. Going to keep the one she wants.

check your FEAD pulleys - notably the idler and tensioner pulleys - they have a way of giving up after long periods of sitting.
Nice work on the gear set up - I always seem to end up with some coast down wine. There's always something new to learn.

The squeaks and radles have gotten to her that did not take long. Its great on the highway where those are not as noticeable. I drove it up to my parents Monday. I miss driving V8 car. Back up for sale.
