more of my phantom build (lol)
pulled the motor, according to my calculations, I'll have to pull it just once more... good, it's a veritable PITA to put it in
a problem I'm not quite sure how I'm going to fix. The tank interferes with the spark plug and the cooling tubes. The cooling tubes aren't too tough because I think I can just put 90* elbows into the head.... the spark plug, OTH, I dunno.... maybe heat and melt the plastic? my googlefu will get a workout tonight
the last motor mount to deal with
start loosely put things together
Doing it all wrong since 1966

Did you weigh the steel frame and the aluminum to see how much difference there is?
Heat tank and mash into shape, not a big deal. The KDX200 engine into KX125 frame swaps have similar gas tank clearance issues. Doesn't that conversion parts site sell modified tanks too?Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

exactly - but that's an update for a later day. on banned500 there's a guy who built an aluminum tank for his AF, maybe at some point I'll do the same. But for now, I'm thinking a nice rack on the back to carry a 2.5 gallon can would be a good idea.Doing it all wrong since 1966

I still am cringing at the idea of a 1.5 gallon tank.

In the early 90's you could buy a "turtle tank" that mounted on the rear fender.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

There are a couple reasons to go aluminum:
1) better vibration modulation (it vibrates less because of aluminum's better dampening)
2) better suspension geometry
Weight is pretty much a wash since you need more aluminum to get the same strength as steelLast edited by SuperBuickGuy; November 6, 2013, 11:05 AM.Doing it all wrong since 1966

That's a good suggestion, maybe it's the same as this? On the banned site, someone was talking about simply turning a petcock valve to access the rear fender tank - that'd be better than a gas can IMO....Doing it all wrong since 1966
