Idk. Currently debating whether I should go ahead and put the front end back on before breaking in the cam, or just trying to cobble everything up to make it run.
Starting to think I will just put the nose back on just so I am not making extra work for myself.

Friday evening I built the down pipe. It seems straight forward, but was a little tricky. The sheer size of the pipe made it difficult to cut with my chop saw and it is hard to just grab it and hold it with one hand. It needed one small dent to clear the cab mount a little better, but that's no big deal.

Holy cow this stuff is big. Stapler for scale. Haha. Bought these aluminized parts from ebay seller "truck-trailer-direct". Very good prices, and free shipping. They got here quick too.

It's 5"! Haha.
I ordered a 90 deg bend with 18" legs and 2 36" sections of pipe. Should be enough to get it about where I want it.
I considered running it through the fender or just dumping it right behind the front tire, but that would probably be stupid loud. I think I am going to run it back and put a 5" resonator muffler on it because some streetcar-style races around here require exhaust past the firewall and a muffler, even for turbo cars/trucks.
I try to do at least one little thing to it every day. I like to say "I didn't do much, but it was more than nothing".

Thank you for not following the Sloppy Mechanics route and poking a hole in the hood... although a flapper would be pretty funny. That's gonna be making steam soon!
I wonder if the diesel shop guys have 4" turns laying around for that downpipe.Last edited by Beagle; May 1, 2019, 01:55 PM.

Played with some cardboard to get a basic down pipe idea. the temptation to turn it up through the hood is tempting, but I think I really want it pointed down or down and back.

Hot side is finished and installed. Still need to make a down pipe, but that won't really be a big deal. Last pic is a little out of focus, but shows how well it tucks up under there while still allowing access to the starter, oil pan, and converter bolts.

Yesterday was poke a hole in the oil pan day. After researching several ways to do it, I decided to drill a small pilot hole and use increasingly larger punches to stretch the hole until it was the right size to tap with a 1/2" NPT tap. Worked really good! I am very happy with the results. I will add some sealer, tighten it up and it should be good to go.

Main harness is weeded out. I will loom it up after I make sure everything works as it should.

I started painting the pipes today. Paint won out over wrap. I have used wrap before on stuff and it didn't seem to be very durable.
I also did some more wiring harness weeding. The current plan is to weed out the unnecessary things from the EFI main harness like headlights, marker lights, etc.
I considered using an eec to MS adapter in place of the stock eec, but I think I will just leave the eec alone and run a separate, simple harness for the MS. The stock computer really won't be doing a darn thing other than plugging a hole in the firewall. I really want to keep the efi engine's fuse/relay box because that will keep me from having to redo a bunch of the in-cab wiring we already did.

that's not bad looking at all, looking forward to seeing it all on there!

In order to lessen the chances of a killing the camshaft, I will break it in using my Dominator and the trusty old HEI. I put them on just to make sure there were going to fit ok. Since it is temporary, I will just run it off the primary side.
