I took some pics of the old gasket. They are Ford gaskets, but were in terrible condition. I was almost wondering if they pulled the intake to seal up the china walls and then tried to reuse the intake gasket or something. THIS is what I need!

I would not use one of these for my cars. The purpose of the valley pan is not to insulate the intake but to just keep oil from burning on the hot exhaust crossover on the bottom of the manifold. The sealing material on these is very thin and does not allow you much tolerance for irregularities. I would block the exh xovr at the head with a thin piece of sheet metal and just use regular gaskets. A standard blue felpro (1970 tbird 429) for iron on iron or a MrGasket 208G (208A for the larger CJ ports) for aluminum on iron or aluminum on aluminum and RTV for the china walls.Last edited by BBR; January 9, 2014, 07:20 AM.Life is short. I've used a step ladder with a 2x12 from one of the ladder steps across the core support, moving blankets underneath - especially when working on the turbo up against the firewall on a powerstroke. There's always something new to learn.

It's pretty obvious it was leaking on the exhaust crossover side of the center ports.

I thought one time about filling that part of the two exhaust ports with aluminum. I've heard it said they don't hurt the exhaust flow but I can't "see" that in my mind.
I had forgotten the joy of getting the distributor out. Mine wound up wounded looking.. vice grips and pry bar. Fun times!Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

Top pic is #7 I believe, but the last test showed more than just #7 were missing.
After studying the ports, I am pretty confident properly sealed gaskets will help this thing a ton.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I don't know what gaskets somebody used on the square bore intake, but dang they are intensely hard to remove!

I have a 1" wide wood chisel that I keep honed to a razor edge, just for those tough gaskets. My fabulous web page
