Great work James! the HEI module conversion is a handy upgrade and cheap - and - they're available everywhere, cheap, if one fries on you. Heck - Randal probably has 2 spares with him all the time LOL. Is that a fox era TFI coil? I have an MSD version of that coil, I'll throw it in my dragweek "open in case of emergency" box. There's always something new to learn.

Yes it is just a regular ole TFI coil that came on a gazillion Ford vehicles. A setup like this with everything all mounted together would make a killer "emergency ignition system" for a drag week car in the event of an MSD box failure!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Remember the whole "think you know something, then realize you know nothing" thing I talked about earlier? Yeah, I'm going through that again only with brakes this time.
When I was bleeding the rear cylinders a week or so ago, a stream of fluid would come out. That's normal. Move to the front, just a dribble comes out. What the heck? Pedal never firms up either. I do some reading and this is what happens when the combination valve goes fully one direction. I've never had that problem before.
The reset it you open the rear bleeders (I put in speed bleeders) and hit the pedal to move the valve back to center. In order to bleed it without having this problem again, the combo valve has a pin you have to press and hold in. Some valves have a pin you pull out and hold (Kelsey-Hayes) and other have a pin you press in (Bendix). There are specialty tools available to do both, but the coolest one I found was one that screws into the warning switch port and holds the shuttle valve in position. Pretty cool tool. I found them made of both aluminum and nylon (or plastic).
Maybe I can do this Saturday or Sunday so I can get back to driving the truck!Last edited by BBR; April 4, 2014, 12:37 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

That was short lived... Got home, popped the hood and it was idling... Then it died. Appears to be from lack of spark. Not sure of the cause, but it's dead. At least it was here and not on a major street!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I think it may be a fried module from insufficient grounding. I chose not to run a ground wire from one of the module bolts to ground because I thought it would be grounded well enough. I will do some more troubleshooting at lunch today.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Module was toast. Did not pass any of the tests. Got a new one and started modifying a CPU heat sink to work with the module. I will still use the plate to mount everything, but the module will now have a heat sink and 100% proper grounds.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
