Does the gas gauge work? Odometer work? I've had some success using one in substitute of the other - but if you have neither - it's best to just stop every couple of days to top off the tank!
I really can't wait to see this truck hauling the four eyed fox to dragweek!

Neither work! I might drive it tomorrow and throw a little gas in the tank just to be on the safe side!!! I really dig driving this thing, can't wait to get more things fixed on it!

        gotta love it....

I'm ahead of you, my 80 C20 has a working speedo, and the gauge on one tank works. I looked at putting a new sender in the other one, but it's too much work. If it runs out, I can just flip the switch.

And poof. Module #2 is dead. I was playing with the carb and timing this evening and decided to plug the tach back in... Within 5-10 minutes, it croaked. I definitely think the tach is the culprit now. I purposely left the tach disconnected in the event it was the thing causing probs. I think I have my answer.

No fuel gauge or odometer, hmm, I had a 2.9 ranger with no fuel gauge, but the odometer workded so I just filled it up with gas and oil every Hundred miles! it was a thirsty beast! Maybe you can take a page from Randle's book and keep a lie sheet every time you drive it estimate how far you went and write it down. When you get to X miles fill her up! Or just keep a gas can with a couple gallons.

Yeah, it's one I had on the Ranger for a long time. It has never really acted right on this truck though. It's definitely going in the trash this time.

Interesting - I was recently helping a friend with a 69 cougar XR7 with factory tach - on those - the ignition power goes THROUGH the tach to the coil, stupid. Bad tach = engine doesn't run!
Hopefully you can find a suitable replacement tach that won't give you any issues.... one of the greatest things about the HEI is the "tach" terminal!

A tach is not a 100% necessity, but I do like to have one. I picked up a new module and installed it. Turn key, motor runs again. Funny how that works.

Wasn't poison gas fighting a problem all DW last year - and it turned out to be the controller box for his old school tach?
I'm going to carry a spare tach in my DW "open in case of emergency" box.....

Yeah it's strange. I have been driving the truck around on the new module without issue (knock on wood), tach disconnected of course.

When the truck is idling, even with that tach lead disconnected, the tach needle bounces around a little. Looks weird and may be back feeding the module or something.

Used it to run some errands and to haul "The Lawn Rangers" (aka my kids) to mow a lawn. Ran great and more importantly, did not run out of gas or break! Whoo hoo!
Lawn Rangers...hehehe...AWESOME!! So good to hear this thing is becoming a productive member of society!!
Hard to believe there was soooo much life in something left to rot!
You gonna haul the Mustang to DW'14 with it...? Did you ever get the exhaust done? I wanna see pics of the interior minus the "crap on floor option"!

Yep the plan is for it to be the tow rig. I've been driving it more and we used it today to run around and mow lawns. I have not done much else to it lately. The exhaust still leaks, but it's pretty amazing that it runs as good as it does now.
