Just curious, are you using generic "taiwan" HEI modules? I had a lot of problems with those on both of my 460 (I did HEI conversions on both of them). I have aftermarket tachs in both trucks too (1 SunPro and one Autogage). The Taiwan modules would randomly shut off while driving down the road. Pull off, hit the key, and it would fire right back up. Sometimes they would die completely. I started running Mallory HEI modules, problem gone. Both trucks have been running reliably for years since then. Just my 2 cents.
I am running BWD modules from Oreilly. I really think the problem is in the old tach. Even with the tach signal lead disconnected, the needle bounces from 0 to 200 while the engine is running, so something is goofy. No biggie. I will get a new tach at some point and give it a whirl.
As far as the paint goes, with baseball season in full swing and 2 kids playing, I just have not had the time to really think about that. The hood is questionable, as it is not original and the paint seems pretty thin already.
James continues to be my hero - huge by large power under the hood, dead simple set up, fast as hell on a dollar per ET basis - and - pure sleeper paint jobs that make a guy completely comfortable to DRIVE THE CAR without worrying about parking it for fear of wrecking a priceless paint job. Well done indeed.
I too wonder about the HEI modules - I recently had a huge PITA go-round with a set of junk autozone "gold" brake pads - I think I'm done shopping there. The advance pads were half the price, fit better, and didn't move around and make a ton of noise. Need to take the autozone stuff back for a refund. UGH. No refund gives you your time back!
Played with the lights yesterday and finally have all of them working at the proper brightness at the proper times. Also messed with the automatic choke.... Not much success with it. Seems it likes to choke about a minute after you start driving. Truck floods, coughs sputters, then finally recovers and drive normal. That still needs work.
Manual choke conversions are easy and do exactly what you tell them to do, when you tell them to do it......
Yep. I was willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt first. I think I will download the adjustment procedure and make sure I am adjusting it properly.
Seems like the more time I put on this thing, the better it runs. We mowed lawns (before the torrential rain!) in it yesterday and it ran really awesome. Knock on wood!
