I have an 07 F150 if I need to haul stuff. This is s fun truck, not a hay hauler!
After doing some measuring, we may ditch the idea of using a Mustang width 8.8. It would be awesome if you were going for a drag looking truck, but for a sport truck, I think it would require a special offset wheel to keep the track widths somewhat even front to rear.Life is short. An 84-96 8.8 looks to be the ticket. A 65.5" wms to wms puts it in the ballpark with the 67" wide CV front end. This would make normal Mustang offset wheels a possibility, but will require a wheel adapter or redrilled axles.
Now I just need to scrounge one up. A 4x4 axle would be killer because it would likely be limited slip and have a good ratio like 3.73 or so. Big block torque + 4.10's would result in large expenditures at Discount Tire I'm afraid, so they are out. Sorry Beagle! HahaLife is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

What about the CV axle? It would be about the same width as the front? When you have power tall gears just increase wheel speed while spinning. I would look for something in the 3.55 - 3.73 range

A CV axle would probably work, but like the Mustang one, it would require the removal of a bunch of bracketry. I think they are a 4 link with watts link, coil springs, etc. The truck one would need less work.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Got a call in on a Ford pickup 9", unknown ratio, $125. I have a open 9" 3.50 chunk at home that I bought once upon a time so if this works out and it is has something numerically lower, we can swap it out.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Went and snagged it. Do not know much about it yet because it is 106 outside and the diff is about 300 degrees from sitting in the sun. I believe it is from a late 60's or early 70's truck. Spring pads have been cut off and coil over mounts have been tacked on, which opens up the options a bit. Got axles and backing plates but no drums for $125Life is short. Jake and I messed with it and I think it has 3.00 gears in it. Boo, but that's ok, it's a 9" so it's easy to swap centers.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Surge tank arrived yesterday. 70 bucks, worth it not having to build it myself. Looks pretty nice. Just need to decide where I want to put it.
