Oh I definitely will bench test everything. This evening was a case do win some, lose some. I pulled the steering wheel to straighten it up and trim the column cap. It was gnawing into the hazard switch because it is too small in diameter. I won those. It was chilly and starting to get dark so I pulled the truck into the garage and proceeded to swap out the head light switch. I changed it out and STILL had the problem of the stalk not wanting to catch!!!! Lost that one for a while but ended up winning after taking the dash panel off three times. Then it was time to test the lights. I reconnected the battery and pulled the switch. Whoo hoo! Headlights, taillights and front turn signals, but now there are no side marker lights and the left blinker does not work, but that totally could be the flasher being stupid.....well maybe not because the hazards don't work on that side either. But the green dash lights certainly do work! So I ended up with a bizarre mix of win some lose some. I'm betting I probably disturbed another half-ass splice, so I will probably need to pull the dash panel AGAIN to have a looksie.

Well, the phone pic upload seems to be a fail just like the driver's rear brake cylinder that is currently leaking.1 PhotoLast edited by BBR; March 13, 2014, 01:06 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

^^^^^ aussie truck ^^^^^ Edit: when I saw this pic at work, it was right side up, but mirrored so it looked like the steering wheel was on the right. Now it's back to just being upside down. Crazy.Last edited by BBR; March 13, 2014, 07:23 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

My left blinker also goes on strike sometimes, if I leave it on for a few seconds it usually starts to work. My marker lights do the same thing too, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Old f100's are moody.Last edited by gearhed1971; March 14, 2014, 02:22 PM.

Good Lord. Just when you think you have it all figured out...... haha I was researching Duraspark I stuff, which is what I *though* this truck had, and discovered there was a predecessor that was just called the "Solid State Ignition". It was not a whole lot different, but it does utilize a different ignition control module. SSI, DS1 & DS2 all have their own connectors so there is really no way to get them mixed up, so that is no biggie, but I think this thing was wired (or rewired) at midnight by a colorblind guy in a rainstorm. The wire colors do not match what they are supposed to, on either side of the connectors. It's no wonder my tach is not working properly and a damn miracle it has not caught fire and burned this sucker to the ground. Not to mention the nice little rodent munch marks on the wires. haha kilmesef.Last edited by BBR; March 17, 2014, 11:25 AM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

No cruise lol. But I do worry about it if I wire things "correctly" only to find the wires I "correctly" tied into were not correct themselves!! And this truck had a dash fire once in it's life, the cause of which is unknown to me, so I certainly do not want a repeat!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

We did exactly that to a friends winter-beater ranger a few years ago. Didn't even use a heat-sink, and it has run fine as a daily work truck. Good suggestion Milner!Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

Could run the 12v to the coil through a toggle and totally bypass the factory wiring/resistance wiring altogether!Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
