Re: 1973 F-250 - Workhorse Revival -> Sport Truck -> Turbo Truck (Well Over $5k Now)

God help me if I buy another pickup and drag it home! lol My wife has been very understanding about this one, but I don't want to push my luck!

I have a line on some used 16" tires I am going to check out at lunch today. I know I said my luck has been hit or miss, but I'm hoping for a hit this time. haha The tires on it have gigantic cracks forming in them and really are not safe to drive on. It just needs something that is reasonably decent to hold it off the ground for now. Just have to find some suitable wheels to mount them on now.

Yeah, I hear you on keeping the better half happy!

It would be GREAT to grab some used tires!! 265/75/16? I was wondering if you could do a "budget prerunner" with some used 285/75/16's and smaller lift..... I'm having a hard time letting go of that look.....
What are you looking at for wheels? Stock steelies? Aftermarket?

The one's I am going to look at are 265/75-16's.

Wheels? I'm really open to what's available. I'd prefer an aluminum wheel similar to these though.

I think these are more 'period correct' but are harder to keep clean.

be careful with used tires, it's real common to find old ones....and old load range E tires come apart real easy. If you don't know how to figure out the date codes, research it, and try not to get any tires more than 5 years old. Had one come apart on the 87 suburban we had, it was around 5 years old, half the tread came off, screwed up the quarter panel and tailpipes.

old 275 60 17's come apart real easily too and jack up quarter panels, at 2 a.m. miles from home when your cell phone is dead.

these say Chevy but they are aftermarket and don't look hubcentric?

ooops. Sorry Russell... I didn't mean to plagia... plaguer.. however you spell that, steal your work. But, I did put the pictures in so does that make it different enough to be new?

Chevy's use a different hub diameter on their wheel, so stock Chevy wheels won't fit. Hole is too tight. errrr. Won't fit. I'd suspect an aftermarket company would pander to the common denominator?

Those are later model hub centric wheels that use a flat base lug nut.

Finding time to drive 200 miles round trip just for a set of wheels would be the biggest problem.

Guy just txt'd. He sold the tires even though I said I would come by at lunch and get them. Irritating.

Its a tuff call on to leave work and go pick up a CL item or trust the sell to hold even a short while. Better luck next time!
