Already made a change in my plans. Haha.
I am going to use one of the sets of D3 heads I have rather than the F3TE efi heads. The efi heads supposedly have better exhaust ports, but dang the aftermarket just does not support them at all.
The efi lower intake can work with D3's but normal 460 intakes do not seem to work with F3's. I may take a carbide to the D3's exhaust ports before I use them though.
The upside is that I can build the turbo motor before yanking stuff out of the truck.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Doesn't the 552 have good aftermarket heads? Why not use them? Compression too high? E85?
Comment

It did, but a guy reeeally reeeally wanted them so I sold them. And yes, the 552 was a little high -> 10.87:1. (The previous 545 was 11.6:1!) E85 is very scarce around Amarillo. There is one iffy source here and the next closest station is 80 miles away.
The compression with the iron heads will be 9.6:1, which should be do-able with the fuel available here. I figure 600 hp should be easily achievable on moderate boost with a torque curve as flat as the high plains. That should push this pile to low 11's and have nice street manners.
Trying hard to not go all racecar bonkers and compromise the fact it is nice to just hop in and drive around town.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I like the goals for this build! Why the 552 over the 460? I would think the 460 could do 600 HP with a little more boost.

Better internals. Forged pistons, h beam rods, rings already gapped for nitrous/boost use.
If I did the 460, I'd likely just be making more work for myself down the road when a cast piston or stock connecting rod decided to prematurely retire.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I'm sure you've seen this...
But I used this guide to help me home port D3's. For me it was worth the money. Although without a way to flow test them, its hard to say how effective it was.
But I KNOW by spending a bunch of time on the short turn radius, I could see a massive visible difference in port opening.
With forced induction, I don't know if you'd need to do anything to the intake side, the exhaust ports are the major problem.

Yeah I've looked through ScottyJ's stuff before. It's good info. I have saved a bunch of pics from there over the years. Shhhhh. The exhaust is where I will focus my attention. I don't plan on touching the intake side. It will work fine for what I am doing.
I'm playing with the idea of adding bungs to my Victor intake and using it. But that means additional cost. It may be necessary though if I feel like it may need larger fuel rails. I've done one before so I know what to expect. I won't use JB Weld this time around though. Haha.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Currently going in circles trying to find a camshaft that I think will work good....Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Maybe if you were going in ovals you would get there quicker get it cam lobes are closer to ovals than circles

Cams for turbo engines are interesting. Nitrous or NA cams tend to throw more duration and lift on the exhaust side. Turbo cams seem to favor the intake side if things. There are virtually no shelf cams for a BBF that favor the intake over the exhaust. I had an example of a custom turbo cam spec'd by Randy Malik for a D3 headed 460 so I drug out the old Desktop Dyno 2003 and plugged in all the engine and cam info. Then, I went about looking all over for a cam with similar design criteria like minimal overlap (~10 degrees) that created a power curve that was identical or very similar. There are two that I found that I would consider as possibles. One is a Lunati "BareBones" cam p/n 10340102 and the other is a CompCams X4270H. These two produce power curves that are almost identical to one another and are very very close to the custom cam.
Lunati Cam specs:- Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 290/300
- Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 224/234
- Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .543/.569
- LSA: 112
- Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 270/278
- Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 226/234
- Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .554/.574
- LSA: 111
