    • Trent texts me pics of the truck they have and it's in waaaaaaay better condition! Whew. I ask what they want for it and Trent responds "just buy me a cheeseburger sometime" which is what I tell people when I give them something for free. Lol. He said they really just want it gone. It is a 74 (I think) long wheelbase 4x4 1/2 ton with no rear axle, but all the stuff I want seems to be in good shape. So, this Saturday morning I will be dragging it home! Can't wait to dive in and check it out!! Looks like it has the dealer installed AC controls under the center vents. Interesting. I believe it is a 360/C6 truck, but Trent is a Chevy guy so he has no idea what engine it is. haha
      Free is good.

          • Yeah, I am almost tempted to keep this one and part the other truck out! lol

On second thought, naaa, I like the yellow/brown much better.

Crap. I just noticed that most all of the pics in this thread are MIA because FB changed how they reference images...... grrrrr.

                • The thought of winching this truck up on my trailer just using my trailer mounted hand winch does not appeal. I have used it a few times to drag the Mustang up on it, but you have to crank it a bazillion times to get it up there. Not hard at all, but VERY TIME CONSUMING. So I decided to get an electric winch and let it do the hard work. HFT had a coupon for this one and in the reviews, people have used it for this exact purpose. I bought, the winch, a hitch extension, a hook with a pulley, and the winch mounting plate for $85. I am going to weld the winch plate to the hitch extender this evening so I can mount it in my receiver and use it for more than just the car trailer.

Tomorrow is free truck day!! Whoo hoo!

                  • Cool! So will you actually tow with the hitch extender, or just unhook and swap receiver stuff to use the winch and swap back to trailer? I've thought of replacing my manual winch mount with a receiver for this very thing.

                    • I did it backwards and put the receiver at the front of my trailer, bolted through the wood to the trailer frame:

I did it more so I could put the winch in the toolbox though... I've never used it not on the trailer. I still need to get a remote. That's cool!

                      • Stiney, I will probably tow with it in place, but not for a long trip. Just local stuff keeping the tongue weight light. Beagle, that is what I originally had in mind and probably what I will eventually do. But seeing that I have to be out there at 10am in the morning, my window of time to modify the trailer was pretty small.

                        • Man, that was a job getting that truck on my trailer. We (JWS4621 and me) brought just about everything we needed to load that puppy. Jonathan brought two extra wheels to put on the front so it would roll and steer. We'll, we could not get the lug nuts off one side so we only had one roller wheel on the front. We tried a cheater bat and only succeeded in exploding one of the sockets on my 4 way. Lol. The guy who had it, took his tractor and lifted the rear of the truck while I steered and operated the winch. It was slow going, but we got it there. That little winch saved our bacon. If we had not had it, it would have been a much much much harder job. We towed it to my house reaching a max speed of 45 mph because any faster and it felt really squirrelly. Might have something to do with exceeding the towing capacity of the Durango by a significant margin....maybe. Anyway, it is now safely tucked away in the backyard. It is a 1975 truck, 360 FE, automatic, NP203 full time 4wd. The first plan is to gut everything behind the dash and put it in the yellow truck. I have already swapped an inside door handle and the passenger side mirror. I can't wait to dive into this thing more. I'll post some pics when I am at a PC.

                          • Ok....might sound crazy, but hear me out.... I think you should straight axle this thing!!
I had a really hard time letting go of the pre-runner look you posted earlier in this thread! But as I'm sure you know, lifting twin I beam front ends is way too expensive for a budget build.
But now that you have a complete parts truck....how hard would it be to swap in the d44 and then have all sorts of lift options?
I know Eric (ford141) on here has converted 5 lug d44 cheaply to 8 lug so you could keep your new wheels.
Man this looks sooooo badass!! Could it be done for a fraction of the cost? Eric would probably know....he's had these trucks apart forward and back!

                            • I think I'll pass. The front half 4x2 and 4x4 frames are completely different, so any sort of swap would be a giant undertaking. Pics!

My very first FE. This truck is supposed to be a 2bbl but someone swapped a 4bbl intake and carb on it once upon a time.

I think the first order of business is to start pulling everything out of the interior that I want. This is a non-ac truck that had a dealer installed a/c system so I think I am going to swap all the HVAC stuff to the yellow truck. Doing so eliminates the giant underhood blower box on the passenger side of the firewall and really opens up the engine bay on that side.
