Need help with AC controls on an '02 Jeep.........

Buddy of mine and I are trying to help a young couple get
the AC going again on their '02 Jeep.
Funds are limited and two young kids.........you know the story.

Actually the AC works it's the control that won't......it stays on defrost
no matter when you turn the direction knob.
I'm thinkin something vacuum is wrong but need some direction where
to start looking.

Any thoughts here.........? Shaun?

I did a few hundred broken mode doors last year
the dash comes out easy in jeepsters
change the evap core when you are in there - puke about 100% of the time

I don't have any Jeep experience, but on many GM systems the air doors "default" to defrost if there's a failure, as in losing the vacuum source that powers the system. That stuff can be a pain to get at, but I would look for the vacuum hose that goes thru the firewall and inspect it and try to verify that there is vacuum at the controller.

Keep in mind that this is what I would do, and I don't know what the hell I'm doing. ;D

Bill.......it's the manual.
It seems to be like Kris mentioned......defaulted to defrost.

Given the current heat wave here we're tryin to get the kids
up and runnin again

Thanks.........we're gonna check the vacuum lines as suggested
and also the switch itself

Just got back from the young couple's home

Fixed!

As mentioned here.......vacuum line was the culprit

Checked to see where it went through firewall......it actually was dis connected
you could here the vacuum leaking

You're right Bill.....first place I thought of when we decided to
do the fix.....great resource

Yep.........you got it!
I placed the tube back on the nipple and it sucked it right
back on

Hey.......now I can tell all my buds I can work on AC
