  • SPECTRA FUEL TANKS?

Wondering if anyone has any experience with SPECTRA PREMIUM fuel tanks. Looking in particular the ones with fuel pumps in tank. Here is a link.

Oh Im well aware of those but Im not paying 1200.00 for a f'in fuel tank. That shits plain highway robery. The tank I listed was bad enough seeing as you can buy the standard pumpless take for 200-250.00

I realize its stainless, but I still dont think its worth that kind of money. The factory tank lasted 30 years and 300k miles I dont see why a good standard replacment wouldnt do the same thing. As far as the fuel safe goes, its not going in a race car its going in a very very nice driver that might never see the track.

the SPI fi tanks work really good if yoy do a fi conversion with a stock tank even with a sump starves for gas on turns
hard braking etc, these tanks look like a stock late fi tank in side good stuff. it would be easey to spend more then that with a baffled sump pump bla bla bla and it would look like a race car with fuel lines hanging out the back. go for it and report back try advanced auto for a better price and if you have a auto bussiness hook up you could buy straight from SPI there are warehouses all over the country.

                Re: SPECTRA FUEL TANKS?

I just bought a SPI tank for my Falcon. Had to get one quick and a local salvage yard I deal with was able to get it overnight for $150. Local parts stores needed a week they said. I had three days to get my car going at that point. I also bought the new sending unit for it as the new tank is 16gal vs. my old one that was 14.

The tank installed with no problems, all the mounting holes were where they should have been. The steel used isn't as thick as the oem tank, but hey, I'm just happy those tanks are being reproduced and I could get one on such short notice.

For the price of that tank I would look into doing your own in-tank setup on a regular repro tank.

                      Re: SPECTRA FUEL TANKS?

I have the Spectra tank in my Camaro. I don't like it. My fuel system leans out when the tank gets low, and the factory fuel gauge doesn't read properly like they advertised. When it's empty, gauge shows about a half tank. :-\
