  • Powder Coating "Chrome" on aluminum wheels? Or better coating options?

Anyone done it? Satisfied with the results? Pros and Cons?

Bought a 2000 Toyota Celica GT with after market 17" aluminum wheels, the coating on the wheels was failing from underneath due to Ohio style corrosion.

Just brought them home yesterday with a bunch of other stuff from the sandblaster dude. They look great, non of the corrosion went deep, just enough to ruin the original coating.

We originally were thinking Powder Coat to help preserve them as this will be driven in winter as a college car. Unless someone has advice for a better option for the wheel coating?

Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

My surveillance customer wanted to get a job for the cameras at a new casino with a bright gold plated look on cheap ass metal trim rings. The extreme chrome from prismatic powders in no doubt the best chrome out there for powder. The problem is, it needs to be cleared. It should not have been a problem for this job since we were doing a candy gold, but just trying to do anything with powder clear on top took away the great look. I mean, the extreme chrome is really nice, even has some of those blue and different colored iridescence to it., but the only way to stay chrome is to spray a clear on top, and that is a real task to keep the build light enough..

The metallic powders that do not need clear are called bonded chromes, and they have no real chrome look to them. Shiny, silver, yes. Chrome no.
