My machinist does lock n stitch and swears by them. He would rather stitch the crack then have them welded because it can warp the head badly, even after normalizing.
Then you get into milling the head flat again, checking the guides and maybe reaming them, and a new valve job. Seat inserts can pop out also if they were not installed properly the first time.
