  • GM techs question rear brakes on 07 Pontiac G6

Car has 17,000 miles and rears were down to backing plates and rotors gone. Replaced the pads and rotors, but the owner says it's making some kind of noise back there again.

I thought she drove with her left foot on the brake or left the hand brake on. She doesn't and didn't ( car beeps without stop even if the hand brake is pulled up the tiniest bit.

The front brakes are still just fine.

First thing to look at is usually the caliper slides,
or the fit between the pads and caliper bracket.

If all is well there, look for interference between the rotor
and the, pad clips, or the backing plates.

Parking brake shoes inside the hub of the rotor,
I've seen some e-brake shoes seperate, pretty noisy.

What about the wheel bearing/hub assy?
These get noisy when the bearing goes bad.

What pads did you use? I did brakes on a freinds 07 g6 and it did the same thing. I used the ceramic pads from wearever and they sucked bad. They worked fine but made alot of noise when they did. I have found that they must have changed the composition in the friction materials because I have had this problem with the last 4 brake jobs I had. I ended switching vendors and using bendix and haven't had a problem in the past 9 months.

Hey Spidey, that car like my Camaro, where the rear brakes engage first??

17,000 sounds like a short time for breaks to go out.

tahoes wear the rear brakes first
I never get pay jobs on G6 , I just get to do heater boxes and convertible top noises on em
            and panoramic sunroof noises
still think it is a nice car though - the 3.9 in GXP was pretty torquey , that is the impala cop car motor
