  • Wide bands and multi-piece headers

I think maybe my slip fit multi piece headers have been jacking with my wide band sensor's readings.

I am thinking about moving the sensor up off the collector to one of the center header tubes that does not have a joint (read: potential air leak) in it. It will only really be reading 1 cylinder instead of 4. The center 2 cylinders are the leanest in my motor so if they are ok, the others *should* be ok.

    Thoughts? or better ideas?

I bet it's the cam and not your headers. usually with that combo, a wideband is only good at half throttle or more. Is that what you experienced?

Heck I don't know. It just always seemed to read on the lean side, but the plugs and my nose told a different story.

But this JAW wb is pretty jumpy anyway. Maybe they have a new firmware that fixes this AND is stable.....

the problem with the big cams, and big exhaust, is that there's always partial misfire at idle and low RPMs. That's why you have to do the tune just like with a carb - using your ears & nose.

I wouldn't worry much about it for now, instead work on a good feeling tune for idle and tip-in. Then as the load comes on, the wideband SHOULD start settling down and making sense. A little time on a chassis dyno, if you can find one that's affordable there, might be a good idea at this stage!

When you say tune like a carb do you mean tune for highest vacuum/lowest MAP?
