  • SVO T5

I've been offered a T5 out of an '86 SVO Mustang. Does anyone know what differences there are from the V8 trans? I think they may have a lower 1st and different input shaft but I believe the SVOs had World Class T5s. Anyone know for sure?

As far as I know, the svo mustang t-5 trans. were no different than a stock 4 cyl. trans.
I had one from a 88 turbo coupe and I know it had the same tag as one from a stock 4 cyl.

I ran one for 2 years in a '90 notch with ET streets all the time. It ran 13.00's and was my daily driver.

            Finally shredded it.

Even a WC T-5 is nothing special really. It has a 305ft-lb. rating, and even in WC form, a stock 5.0 will frag it, starting with 2nd and/or 3rd gear(s).
If you plan on a stang with over 300hp, save your money up, and get a TKO.

Ill take a T5 anyday over a TKO, the tremec shifts like pewp.

ProMotion does some nice work to a T5 and its lighter tooooooooooooo

                  Re: SVO T5

I regret getting rid of my T-5.

I have a Tremec 3550 and it shifts like crap. I hate it. Using the synchromax did smooth it out a little, but it's chunky and grinds sometimes.

I know guys (and so does Tommy) that run 10's on good T-5's.

yea, talk with leonard long of g-force/long shifters about a t-5. his race units work really good. But I think he said you need to stay under 700 hp :

                      Re: SVO T5

I trapped 130+ in the quarter with a T5. It's not that they can't do it, it's they can't do it for long.

Not sure about the SVO T5, but the regular 4cyl T5 all the gears are under driven.
