  • Timing Chain noise?

Ok guys my motor started making some differant noises,My first thought was the converter bolts were loose but the were tight,ok so i slide the converter back and checked the flywheel for cracks.. nothing and bolts tight. So i trace the noise to the front of the motor pulled the timing cover and the chain has a ton of slack (3/4" or more deflection) the cam gear is severely worn and the chain rollers are split. Could this be my knock/pecking noise? i couldnt find anywere it has contacted anything but the timing retarded when you revved it.

motor still hold 60 psi oil pressure hot at 2,000.
    25-30 at idle (standard pump)

Motor has about 500 miles chain about 10k

Is it this pos comp cams chain? the noise isnt consistant like a rod it comes and goes.

My friend's 302 has a knocking sound coming and going. Turns out it was the balancer. We replaced and was fixed.

ive seen timing chains get pretty beat up in stick cars and BIG nitrous cars but 10 k i would put a new chain set in it and see what happens was chain like newtight when you reused it?

I'd be trying to figure out why it wore the chain and gears so fast. I'm sure it could make noise in that condition.

How much slack was in it when you assembled it?

175 pills in it. cam is [email protected] 500 lift on a 106. aprox 11.5.1 compression

It had some what i would call normal slack in it when i put it back in.

I think its just a lack of quality. Chain has india stamped all over it.

The one problem I see is that a lot of junk has gone thru the motor. I'm not sure how you would clean it out.
