    Friend called, I would think steel dist gear.

    RPM RANGE: 1500-5500

    Duration at 0.006" Lift: Intake: 282? Exhaust: 282?
    Duration at 0.050" Lift: Intake: 220? Exhaust: 220?
    Lift at Cam: Intake: 0.311" Exhaust: 0.311"
    Lift at Valve: Intake: 0.498" Exhaust: 0.498"
    Timing at 0.050" lift: Open Close
    Intake: 0? ATDC 40? ABDC
    Exhaust: 40? BBDC 0? BTDC
    Centerlines: Lobe Separation - 110? Intake Centerline - 110?


    Note: May use original hyd. roller lifters. For mass-air engines only.

    CAUTION: Use Edelbrock Street Legal Performer-Link Timing Chain and Gear Set #7814. Do not use late model timing chain and gear sets that are designed for emission-controlled engines. These timing sets are machined in a retarded position and are not recommended for this camshaft installation. Edelbrock Street Legal Timing Sets feature one keyway for accurate timing selection.

    Use only recommended stock or Edelbrock Sure Seat Valve Springs #5822 or #5922 (for rotators).

          Hydraulic roller designed to go in place of the OEM roller, I'd say use a steel distributor gear ... that's what Ford used.

            steel gear for any roller cam for sure.

            Stock replacement '85 and newer distributors have the steel gear on them - I think '85 is the year to get if you want to run the "duraspark" style setup, '86 and up I believe they are all the same with full computer control of advance.
            There's always something new to learn.

              Alternately you can use any year of Duraspark distributor, and swap over the gear. Available from FRPP separately as part number M 12390 B.

                I would follow edelbrocks advice. I use the comp cams steel gear on my 347.

                  The 5.0 used a steel core from the factory so swapping cams to another steel core wouldn't require a gear change, unless he is using a dist from an older engine that had a cast iron cam

                    Here's a quote for ya. Right out of the instructions for the cam.

                    Edelbrock camshafts are designed to use OEM-type gears only.

                      I told him use the steel, but that I would ask, LOL All my junk is Billet. He is switching to a petronics set up.
