Good friend of mine bought a Buick 455 in a junkyard that had been sitting for years (like 30 of em) . He got it sll apart but aparently the motor had spun a couple of bearings (probably how the car ended up in the yard) anyhow he got all the rods and pistons out and the caps off but the crank still wont come out.anybody got any ideas?

The gentle, warming touch of a smoke wrench and a BFH.

              Re: Stuck Crank

Assuming the crank may be junk anyways with the spun bearings and rust, violence is the key! I doubt the bearing shells can hold the crank to the block too solidly. Either the crank will separate from the bearings or the bearings will pull from the crank. Big pry bar and a BFH will be your friends.

a 2by 4 and a solid wack with a bfh on the 2by4 at the rear flywheel flange as if you where try'n to push the crank forward in the block..
and then it'll lift right out..

In a battle between you and the metal - don't let it win. Sounds like it needs some help already so beat the crap out of it.

6 or 7 pounds of C4 should do the trick...

Oh.. did you want to save the block?

It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

                            Re: Stuck Crank

Just hit the snout of the crank with a sledge hammer a couple of times, that should free everything up. An old wrecking yard guy I used to know taught me that one. If you have a bolt that won't break loose, you smack it with a hammer a few times and it's bust loose every time. Seems like that's all that crank is needing, a couple good smacks. ;)
