  • Who knows why a 75 Pontiac Ventura has an Olds 260 in it?

I just picked up my 17 year old sons first car, its a 75 Pontiac Ventura SJ with what looks like an Olds 260 in it. I know GM was doing a little switching around engines back then. Was the 260 a derivitive of the bigger 403? This thing has only 87K on it. And it runs. Price? 250.00 It also has buckets and console. It has a pretty rusty roof from the vinyl top. We're just going to clean it up and get it road worthy and drive it as is. Anyone have any experience with these cars? Sorry, haven't figured out this picture posting on here.

The Olds 260 was an option in the Omega, which came out in '75, so someone might have just swapped out the drivetrain. By 75 there was no Pontiac motor offered for the Ventura. The 250 and 307 were chevys and the 350 they put in them in '75 were Buicks.

the 1070s X cars were the breeding ground for corporate engine swapping among GM divisions.

is the 5th digit of the VIN an F?

Shows how much I know about the later models, I didn't know that they stopped putting the 307s in them. That is a cool find, I'd keep it at least for a while with the Olds.

I remember the Ventura using that engine, 75 to 76 or 77 I believe it was.
