    Re: th400 downshift switch wiring?

The second wire on yours is probably for TCS, transmission controlled spark. they had a switcn in the trans that told a relay when it was in second gear, blocked off the vacuum advanc,e, or something. Our 70 camaro has it too.

Also the early 400s with switch pitch used the second wire to run the converter.

The spring loaded switch is neat because you can adjust it to kick whenever you want. It pulls, not pushes like the setup you have now

The more i think about it, I think this is the way to go over a micro switch set up, more adjustability.

The GM manual shows nothing for this in the engine wiring diagram.

There's a few drawings of a switch like the one you have, in the TH400 section of the manual (I have the 70 Chevy service manuals, because we have that bitchin 70 Camaro). But the text on how to adjust it doesn't match the drawings, however it does match the drawing in the 70 camaro supplement! which has a switch on the gas pedal, and it's a cable setup, not the mechanical linkage you have on your car.

The 72 truck manual shows the switch in the wiring diagram.

My Centurion has the two prongs and the TCS switch. I thought it was a first gear vac advance block off, but mine doesn't work nor have I ever gone into the trans to check.
                Escaped on a technicality.

I have this setup on my '55. I like it a hell of a lot better than the pedal switch that the previous owner installed from a '72 Caprice. The B&M Switch can be adjusted more than the slide switch.

I've used a couple of the B&M switches. They work great.

                            How do you wire them?

power from switched ignition/accessory terminal on the fuse block (or the wire that used to go to the old switch if it's there) goes to one terminal. The orange wire from the trans goes to the other terminal.

It needs to get 12v to the transmission make it kick down.
