Re: th400 downshift switch wiring?
power from switched ignition/accessory terminal on the fuse block (or the wire that used to go to the old switch if it's there) goes to one terminal. The orange wire from the trans goes to the other terminal.
It needs to get 12v to the transmission make it kick down.

Originally posted by squirrelThere's a few drawings of a switch like the one you have, in the TH400 section of the manual (I have the 70 Chevy service manuals, because we have that bitchin 70 Camaro). But the text on how to adjust it doesn't match the drawings, however it does match the drawing in the 70 camaro supplement! which has a switch on the gas pedal, and it's a cable setup, not the mechanical linkage you have on your car.
The 72 truck manual shows the switch in the wiring diagram.

Originally posted by squirrelThe second wire on yours is probably for TCS, transmission controlled spark. they had a switcn in the trans that told a relay when it was in second gear, blocked off the vacuum advanc,e, or something. Our 70 camaro has it too.
Also the early 400s with switch pitch used the second wire to run the converter.

Re: th400 downshift switch wiring?
The GM manual shows nothing for this in the engine wiring diagram.
