Clutch Slave Cylinder Heat Shield

I'm putting a T5 in my 92 Camaro. Is the heat shield required or can i just bolt the slave to the bellhousing with nuts and bolts. Thanks

Pretty sure the '83 Z28 we used for Lemons didn't have one and that didn't give any problems (It had a later T5 and pedals/hydraulics swapped in)
