    12 bolt from a a body into a g body help

    I have 2) 12 bolt a body rears 68-72 chevelle..
and I want to install one in my 86 SS
I understand the 4 link mounts are at different angles..
the lowers can be fixed by cutting off the mounts from the tubes and welding on new in the correct place

the uppers on the otherhand are cast into the iron center.. now on stock four link a body's people use "anti hop bars" that bolted to the center and you bolted the upper arms(links) to..
can these be heated and then bent to the correct angle??
did someone already think of this and they are already made/offered
welding or mods to this cars frame is O U T out..
    thanks

There's a few Places that make conversion top links that correct the angle. Go over to Malibu racing and they can point you the right way.

    Here's some that iceman makes

what Phoneguy said. The rear is 2" wider as well. They will actually bolt up with nothing done but they bind and therefore need the upperarms.

      Iceman makes good stuff

Can't go wrong with Iceman's stuff. Prices are great too.

It is possible to wrangle an A-body rear into a G-body with no mods. Everyone will tell you it can't be done, but it can. Pinion angle will be slightly fubar, but just saying....

The bottom arms fit okay. Its the tops, the arms swing in a different arc than the ears on the rear want to swing in. It used to be semi-common to slice-n-dice arms to get them to line up, they aren't off by a whole lot.

But again, Iceman makes some nice stuff at a good price. I've got a set of SouthSide A-into-G bars at home on the shelf, I don't want to sell them, but I could take pictures or measurements.
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

I would use some baseline bars on the back with their relocating mounts, Pro-Launch Gold,

The south side bottoms will hit to hard at 10.90's or quicker I dont like them.

it being 2" wider is only 1" per side, that can be adjusted in backspacing

I never said otherwise? I prefer a 15x8 with 4.5" backspace on stock or 5.5" backspace with the a body rear

see the two rear ends next to each other.. and assume other weakness throughout the whole chassis.

my own sprung a frame before it never bothered the rear end...this is after witnessing a friend snap the front frame on a malibu clean in half...
never again. unless I am one end of the car to the other with a mig...and a 60 day age time starting on june 21st with alignment of certian planets.

it is not easy to do with the 80s G stuff..if it stays pliable, acting young... you will notice the swaying squish at 130s.

assume they are harder than that now. that means breakage.

UMI makes upper control arms that bolt the diff in the car . They are also adjustable.
