    10 bolt question

Does the GM truck 10 bolt interchange with the 8.5 car 10 bolt? I know, dumb question, but I don't have a car 10 bolt around to compare.

I had been told that the new ones have a different design diff that won't bolt in , but I never messed with 8.5 in the older cars

1972 was the cutoff from 8.2-8.5

          third member, ring gear, pinion...

my rescue truck had a limited slip rear with 4:11 gears.... wondering if it would be worth it to put it and put it on a shelf somewhere... I know I'll never use it as a 1/2 ton truck rear (6 lug, not 5)

I'm pretty sure they do interchange...80s trucks, later 70s cars. The 12 bolts were different between cars and trucks, not the 10 bolt.

10 bolts interchange. You can even run an adaptor in a 8.625 and run the car diffs and ring gear and pinion.

Learn something every day, I thought they were different. Richmond gear sells the same part number gear for all of them, though, truck or car..

Are car and truck 10-bolts the same width?

I.e, would truck axles fit into a malibu 10-bolt?
Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

                        The 73-91 8,5 inch 10 bolt rear axle from a truck,are around 4 inches wider than a 73-77 A Body axle..if that tells you anything.And those A Bodys are wider than a lets say a 70-72 Chevelle.
