That's about what I have. My 455 came from a '74 Delta 88, or so I was told. It had a points dizzy in it and it looked like it had been there forever. I heard it run before buying it. It's ready to drop in when I get the time. I didn't rebuild it, just gave it a thorough checkup and gonna drop it in to see how I like it.

SO, now that the direction of the project has been determined and the "new" motor is in the car, what does one do with an Oldsmobile 3ow7 block? Is there a purpose that his could serve beyond being a heavy doorstop or a garden weedpot (not growing weed or pot for you Washington/Colorado folks). I can see it now, some Spicoli out there, "DUuuuude, that's sooooo kuallll, you're growing weed out of an old useless engine block. Uh, huh, knarely, mayon." I almost got sick the first time I saw that - Driving through Arkansas in the early 90's to see a yard with little kid in dirty diaper covered in filth, 350 chevy block in the yard with flowers growing out it, Camaro on three wheels and a cinder block.
It's kind of funny until you see it for real.

My thumbs are black but that's grease stains from working on the wagon. When it comes to gardening what is the opposite color of green? Orange?
I've got some pictures somewhere that need to be posted. We (myself, Beagle & others) talked about the Olds crossover exhaust piping and the reasoning for headers on the 455. Guess I'll have to do some search & post to day.

Okay Beags, this is for you specifically as you made the comment (whether it survived the erasures or not) about difficulty envisioning the crossover as I described it. This is the left exhaust manifold & down pipe configuration for a typical Oldsmobile motor.
This is the right exhaust manifold with the crossover pipe mocked up for instructional purposes only with the main exhaust outlet visible too. I can rotate these pictures if being upside down throws a wrench in the comprehensive gearing.

Death of a 307 While I did pull the 3ow7 out I have not taken it apart to see the internal damage. Here are a few pictures of the oil & filter that came out/off of it. The left motor mount had separated its rubber & metal halves and if not for the built-in safety feature would have been much more noticeable with the engine in the car. I had wondered about the engine's lateral movement but not worried about it yet. The 455 has new ones on it anyway. The oil pan bolt is laying where I found it when the motor mount was removed. A couple bolts to either side of it were loose too, no wonder there is oil caked everywhere.

the diesel version is simular but larger. my 82 was 3" all the way form the manifolds to the single muffle (no cat do to being a diesel)

Please, tell me again what car this came from. It puzzled me to think that there was a diesel version of that car in the year it was made but I do not recall what make/model you said. Grand Prix?

the car was a 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ Brougham Mexico export (it was not meant for sale int he US) it was an interesting car as it was ordered with the diesel but also with the F41 perfomance handling suspension and 3.73 posi rear. people say the GPs never had the same 8" rear as the GNs but this car did form the factory not sure about eh US sold cars but this mexican sold car did. it also had the checkerboard monte rims form the factory but with a pontiac center cap. but being a brougham it had every luxo options GM had, slow fade interior lights, power driver passenger pillow 40/60 bench, rear coat hangers, premium sound system, antenna in the windshield, and factory dark tint
