    Looking to swap out Flowmasters

I've had Flowmasters seems like forever on all my cars.
Always have run the dual chamber unit.

    Looking at Borla & Dynomax.
The round configuration will help with my emergency brake set up.
Heard a Dynomax last week end and liked the sound.

So has anyone swapped a Flowmaster to another brand?
If so......how was the sound difference?

Currently I have a 3" center in and out.

Haven't had Flowmasters but have Dynomax on my 66. I like them very much. Nice mellow sound, not enough to piss the neighbors off but have a nice growl when get on it. I believe Mr P body said in the exhaust tubing thread that he found Dynomax flowed better.

Yeah still looking for performance as well as a different sound.

does it have an H pipe? I'd be curious what an X pipe would do to the sound?

If space is at a premium I found the cherry trubos are the narrowest - at 7.75" wide. Most oval mufflers are closer to 10" wide.

Coffin mufflers are narrower yet. Dynomax are great, magnaflows are nice too, I've also run hooker and warlock (with cut outs)
been happy with all of them. I am not a fan of flomasters.
There's always something new to learn.

Mr. P Body is right about flow with Dynomax's . My friend just put them on his 600 hp Scout II after the Magnaflows blew their fiberglass all over his gas tank and rear suspension.

              Personally, I hate Flows.

maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think that a larger muffler can be quieter with less restriction, compared to a smaller muffler. I have huge flowmasters on my 55, I like the sound most of the time. They are not the same as the smaller flowmasters.

But I've also been thinking of trying something else....so I'm watching

Flows are chambered type and Dynomax's are straight through design i.e. they have an S shaped perforated pipe going through a box case wrapped in high density fiberglass mat.

I only learned of no glass, and round versus the typical. my midget mobile pulverizes any chamber. finally got a big dynomax to fit, and it swelled to not fitting.
I then went onto a newer round version, not much advertized. I wanted NO open chamber on a straight through.

the only round I have found to work legal, a chamber in the middl,e is insynerator bullit.
loud, but tailpipe with any bend calms it, and it is an interesting difference. especially over ten to 1.

my own pops and crackles on any muffler, the bullit is the same.

I miss Sonic turbos , and I think Summit changed vendors. They did pretty well in flow testing in some test I read, but of the two sets I had they sounded a lot different. The newer ones, compared to flowbastids, they are probably gonna be too quiet. The older 13.00 Summits sounded exactly the way I liked, little bit loud, deep rumble (on long tubes, no h-pipe). Then newer 25.00 Summits were too quiet.

I wanna know what was on the Cad CTSV running on DW, it sounded crazy, pretty sure it was an X piped deal. The best way to describe the sound I can come up with is pissed off bumble bee hive sewing machine.

I'm gonna put a set of Hooker AeroChambers on the 90 LX Mustang, it had three chamber flowmasters. Maybe I'll put the Flows back, this car is still 90's riffic, 14 year time capsule.

I always hated the drone you get with Turbo type Mufflers when at Cruise RPM's......

you've clearly never been in a car with Flowmasters at cruise RPM then. :P
