  • 'Nother Tech Question

Is there a reason the motor mounts are set at an angle? Mounting plates on the frame like \ /

    The M-B mounts are like _ _

I think I'll make new block mounts (kinda changing my mind here) and I could do either. The M-B mounts and biscuits sit flat and attach to the frame with two ~ 8mm (say, 3/8") bolts - really simple. I have 2 new biscuits so I can fab that pretty easily. But these mounts also came with a little shock absorber on each side (yep, M-B over-engineering) so I don't know if they tend to let the engine rock or something that could be cured with angled mounts.

    So - any input?

My guess it the V shape simply centers the engine quicker during assembly. Drop it in, it essentially self centers, install bolt(s).
    Escaped on a technicality.

I've see a lot of hotrod mounts come up from the bottom, out from the side, etc. The V is good for when your motor mounts fall apart the engine doesn't hit the ground.

Where is the MB mount compared to the crossmember on the S10?

i-six, you must be familiar when the gas versions get hyped up..
they really can't be all of any angle.

there is an up and over. bmw has had fun with that for years and years.

Lots of commercial engines are installed with horizontal mounts. High HP/TQ ones even.

I'll get some shots today. Guess I try to use the flat M-B mounts and see how they work out. I plan to slide the engine back in today so I can take some pics with the engine both in and out.
