We had a couple sand-throughs on the valve covers, so some epoxy was mixed and reduced 10% to use as a sealer....

Here's the paint code for the early 60's Hi-po 390... Used acrylic enamel.

Finished up, looks quite a bit smoother than before....

Don't know what the car looks like, but he should take the hood off so those are easily admired.........

WoW! Those look so good. I know you and your buddy know that the decals are readily available although I'm not sure I would even replace them given how good the valvecovers look,

Better than New! What kind of sanding block did you use?

Thanks for the comments guys. He already has the decals for it, but hasn't put them on yet. They were sanded using durablocks:

The second one from the top used for most of the flat spots and around the top radius, the bolt recesses using various digits, around the letters by wrapping the w/d around a body filler spreader, using the flexible side. Also used the spreader in the corner of the flange. I used 600 grit 3M w/d.

As a follow up to the valve cover repairs, the owner has the car just about ready, just needs some tune up work...

                      Man those are great cars.
Only thing I would change is the single pot master cylinder.

It may be the same one, this used to be a drag car. He had to find a heater and all the other weight savings that was removed and lost over the years. It also had a hole cut in the hood, he had that filled back in, if that sounds familiar. Was it the same color?

I will a ask Dad if he knows anything about it. I normally only see Don once a year at family reunion (I should really go see him more often) Did it have a hole in the floor board for a 4-speed shifter? The only story I remember is they where running a class where you could do anything you wanted from the flywheel back but nothing to the engine? They had a Chevy 4 speed in it. One day at a race someone said they would pay them $X to put the 3 on the tree back in it and see what it would do. So then found someone who had the same car in the parking lot, and pulled the 3 speed from it. Said it was quicker with the 3 speed. iirc it ran 103 mph in the 1/4 don't remember the time. They kept the 3 speed the rest of the season.

                            randon pic from google

I asked the owner where he got the car from, he said he got it from WI. So I guess a different car after all...
